Choosing Living Room Tables

Living Room Tables
Living room tables are an important part of the overall look and feel of the room and you can change it significantly by changing the tables. If you are in the market for new living room tables, just look at some of the types of tables you have to choose from.

Living Room Tables That Offer Storage
If you’re working with a small space or have kids, you might be interested in combining function with your decorating style. There are many different types of coffee and cocktail tables that offer storage, yet they still fit in nice with the rest of the room. Consider coffee and end tables that have shelves and drawers. The shelves are great for magazines or board games and the drawers hold little things like a deck of cards or candles. The shelves are also great for display if you don’t need the storage space or if you purchase a set of tables and don’t need to use all the storage space.

You can also get stylish coffee tables that open up to offer storage. Some of these are designed like trunks where the lid opens and you can store things inside. Others are more elaborate and the top of the coffee table opens to expose a storage area.

Nesting Tables
Nesting tables are cute when stored and convenient to pull out and use when playing a game or when you need some extra space. Nesting tables can actually be used anywhere in the home when you need a quick surface or you can dedicate them for use wherever you need them. Nesting tables come in a variety of styles and sizes and fit almost any décor.

Glass Tables
There are a wide variety of glass coffee and end tables, many of which are quite elegant. Glass tables are not the best choice when you have young children as they can have sharp edges or may even break if a child trips and falls. Even if you have grandchildren that visit occasionally, you might not want to have glass tables around. In addition, when very young children are present, you’ll constantly be cleaning up fingerprints on the glass tables, which just isn’t very practical.

A Wide Variety of Choice
From the casual to the elegant, coffee tables and cocktail tables can greatly enhance your living room and provide extra storage as well. Furthermore, because they come in a variety of materials, you don’t have to get one kind of table just because it goes with your furniture. You can get the style you want plus get the type of material you want to enhance your living room. You can opt for tables with no storage at all or tables with shelves, drawers and even cabinets. When you’re planning your new living room, take a look at the variety of tables and choose the ones that will fit your family and your lifestyle.

Double Duty Design for Dorm Rooms

Double Duty Design
With every bit of free space needing to count for something, it is important to make wise use of your available dorm room space so you will have room for everything you need and still be able to decorate your dorm room to suit your tastes. While there are a variety of storage options on the market that are perfect for dorm room living, look for as many options as possible that will serve more than one purpose. This will eliminate the need for multiple storage items and will be cheaper as well.

Bedside Table
No matter how cute it is, don’t choose a bedside table that offers no storage. Look for one that has storage drawers or one that actually has a cabinet. If your table is on legs with floor space underneath it, use a basket to store papers or books underneath the table. You might also consider just using a storage trunk for your bedside table and storing things that you want to have with you but that you don’t need to get at every day. You can shop flea markets for old trunks or buy a newer, trendy one. Either way, this is one of the best options to use in a dorm for a table simply because it offers so much storage space.

Desk Area
If you have a desk, try to place it facing a wall so you can add shelves to store your supplies and books. You want to use as much vertical space as possible because you’ll quickly run out of floor space and the walls are there anyway, right? If you do have a shelving unit on the floor, opt for a tall, skinny one instead of the wider kind that can take up a great deal of floor space.

Shoe bags and Shoe Boxes
Nobody needs as many pairs of shoes as most shoe bags and boxes hold and the pockets make excellent storage options for a variety of other things. If you’re using an over the door pocket style of shoe bag, the pockets can hold scarves, belts, socks, bottles, such as hair styling aids, and anything else that will fit.Other Storage OptionsIf you buy anything to sit on, consider a storage ottoman, which will not only look cool in your dorm room but will hold a variety of things you don’t want cluttering the place up.

Some furniture stores sell these in really cool designs, such as the ones that look like a drum or other cool options. Sprinkle wicker baskets around wherever you need a bit of order and look for storage options that hang on the wall or door. You can even buy an ironing board that hangs over the door and folds down when you need to use it.
